2008 ford f-150 review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. With the segment's only rear-hinged side access doors, the regular cab gives excellent recline space and an easy reach to everything dropped behind the seat. At the other end of the scale, premium models include two-tone leather seats, polished 22-inch wheels and other touches: within those extremes lies something for everyone.  2008 marks the first availability of an xl-grade supercrew with 5. 5- or 6. 5-foot bed: maximum people space with a work truck ethic. Detail changes for 2008 run the gamut from functional to decorative, the latter a wheels and stripes package for stx models, the former a standard tachometer for xl and stx with manual transmission, tire pressure monitors on the heavy-duty package, plus the availability of a cargo management system, remote start, telescoping towing mirrors, and a rearview camera (that does not require purchase of a navigation system).  with one of the deepest beds in the half-ton pickup segment, the f-150 has generous cargo volume out back and a maximum payload rating of 3,050 pounds. A foose edition f-150 designed by hot-rod master chip foose will be available as a late-2008 model. The base f-150 xl 17,345) is a short, regular cab two-wheel drive. Wheels are steel, the grille is black and bumpers painted, vinyl covers the floor and seats, and the audio is am/fm. However, it does have intermittent wipers, map lights, a 40/20/40 split bench front seat with driver lumbar adjustment, and on supercabs 23,440) air conditioning. Since it frequently adds other upgrades and a larger engine, 4wd adds almost $6,000 (and a v8) to the most basic example and $3,000 to the lowest-priced supercab.  stx models up the ante without going broke, with body-color front and rear bumpers and grille trim, air conditioning, cd player, and cloth upholstery. A 4x2 regular cab short bed starts at $21,050 and a 4x4 supercab flareside goes for $29,045; there is no stx supercrew.  central to the lineup, and sales, is the xlt. To an stx it adds chrome bumpers, black honeycomb grille, remote keyless entry, power mirrors/locks/windows, carpeting, auto headlamps, tinted windows, and better fabric for the 40/20/40 seat. Hefty rubber mats protect the carpet; other upgrades include a leather-wrapped wheel, unique instrument display, and sport cloth upholstery with driver and passenger lumbar support. Monotone paint includes the bumpers (gray with tow-tone paint), flares cover 18-inch aluminum wheels, and the door gets keypad entry. On regular cabs 24,105-30,645) the fx4 is $5,750 over the fx2 and there's no long-wheelbase fx4; on supercab and supercrew 28,700-35,445), the 4wd version is a $3,295 premium.  the lariat label is reserved for more luxurious, car-like interiors, and does not include regular cab or flareside models; retail prices range from $29,895-$35,595. Fancy bits include 18-inch aluminum wheels, power heated mirrors with signal repeaters, climate control, leather-trimmed seats and steering wheel, powered driver's seat, trip computer, light-faced gauges, and chrome and arizona beige trim.  for 2008, ford will build 5,000 lariat limited f-150s, replete with serial-number plates, spun-metal instrument cluster trim, two-tone leather cabin, color-matched grille and bumpers, and three-dimensional chrome bed side badging. Limited models are offered only as 139-inch wheelbase supercrews in two- 35,160) or all-wheel drive 38,160).  top tier among regular production models is the king ranch, with castano leather modeled after the saddles that roamed the texas ranch. Exterior trim is similar to lariats, with color-matching components and arizona beige accents. At this level, items such as heated power seats and power-folding mirrors are standard. And the 2008 ford f-150 shows the evolution of 70 years of function. Angular means easy to clean, easy to park and gives maximum inside volume for outside space. The f-150 is easily recognized in any trim level by the circular front lights within a rectangular housing, stepped front window ledge, opening rear doors on the regular cab, and the tall bed. For 2008, extendable dual-element towing mirrors bring the f-150 in line with the bigger super duty pickups, as well as the ram, titan, and tundra. Any cosmetic sacrifice is well worth the extra visibility with a trailer behind.  pillars between the doors may yield a blind spot for those who sit more rearward and everyone should appreciate the windshield pillar designed to help preserve forward vision. The flareside really is more stylish than the styleside bed, that which is essentially a box with some character lines in the sheetmetal, and more space within. The chrome harley badges are a bit much for some of us, but it drew many admiring looks. interiorford has all bases covered inside the f-150, with plenty of patterns, textures and finishes, including at least three different gauges clusters, and the choice of a 40/20/40 split-bench front seat or captain's chairs in many models. Captain's chairs on fx and lariat models, especially with power adjustment and the optional adjustable pedals, provide good driver positioning for virtually everyone. Finding it may take some time because the backrest angle adjustment is manual and the power controls are on the side of the seat with the door very close.

Back in the Sixties all of the Manufacturers were building sleepers.. 1963 Pontiac Catalina Wagons , with 421 Tri-Power and factory heavy duty suspensions ... The Legend is that there were three 426 max wedge wagons built in 1963 and 2 in 1964 these badass , mythical grocery getters were capable of running A/gas and turning 12 second quarters...... This car is an unbelievable tribute to those few unicorns that actually exist out there . This car is equipped with a 440 magnum built by Reapers Racing. There had to be a true purpose for these beasts of burden and I can't believe that they built them that way so that a family of five could go to the drags and turn 13 second quarters while having a picnic..... To satisfy the need for speed by old farts that had to settle down and sell their toys when they became respectable or had kids..... The Max Wedge Wagon allowed the old folks to sneak up next to a respectable hot car like a Corvette or a Mustang , antagonize them just enough so that when the light changed the proverbial Corvette driver would romp on the gas pedal leaving the old fart in the station wagon sitting at the light and feeling quite smug about it..... Or so he thought ..... As he looks in his rear view mirror he realizes that the old fogies wagon wasn't at the light ... It was in fact running right next to him and as he looks over , the old fart waives at him , smiles , gives him a big thumb up and promptly blows past the now completely deflated Corvette owner... As the Corvette guy, can now clearly see the back of the huge station wagon, he see's a whole bunch of x's on the back of the tailgate and wonders if he wasn't the next notch on the Predatory Wedge Wagon's Tailgate..... This Savoy wagon is in perfect condition and has been fully restored. Every nut bolt and washer has been touched and it runs like it should . Y'all will have to excuse me I think I feel a hunt coming on ......

2007 chevrolet hhr review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Retro-suv gets power boost for 2007. introductionthe chevy hhr is a handy wagon that celebrates a heritage that dates to the 1949 gmc suburban panel delivery truck. Hhr stands for heritage high roof, and the roof of the hhr is high. The chevy hhr is built on a smaller scale, but there are no bones about its retro styling. Its retro look is best exemplified in the hhr panel van.  we found the chevy hhr to be fun to drive. It isn't a sports car, but it's nimble and we were pleased with its acceleration. The hhr feels more responsive than its horsepower, torque, and transmission ratio numbers suggest. Plus, it gets decent fuel economy.  the interior wasn't as functional as we'd have liked, however, and the base cloth fabric left us wishing we'd ordered the optional leather.  the chevrolet hhr was launched as a new model in 2006, and it remains relatively unchanged for 2007 with the exception of slightly more powerful engines and a few additional new color choices. New exterior color options for 2007 include imperial blue metallic and golden teal metallic; a new interior color option is ebony.  the hhr is built on the platform of the chevy cobalt compact and incorporates its best features: engine, transmission and suspension. The hhr is meant to compete against the chrysler pt cruiser, as well as the honda element. It also serves as an alternative to a jeep liberty or ford escape.  the panel van lt features smooth, windowless side panels and rear cargo doors with no handles. The rear cargo doors open via an instrument panel button. lineupthe chevrolet hhr comes in ls and two grads of lt trim, 1lt and 2lt. The pioneer sound system is optional.  safety features include optional front and rear side-curtain airbags 395). Abs comes standard on the 2lt, and is optional for the ls and 1lt 400). Electronic stability control is not available. walkaroundif there's ever been a case of a picture of a so-called suv being worth a thousand words, the hhr should be it. It looks like a 1949 panel delivery truck, with the edges smoothed over. The big grille is chrome, every inch of it, and looks almost exactly like the '49 suburban grille. The headlights, however, are modern glittering wedges, containing one big beam and the turn signal.  the front and rear bumpers are molded plastic, unlike the steel in the body. Technically, they may be part of the fascia, but because they take the conspicuous shape of bumpers, they are more like square lumps extending from the extremities of the vehicle.  the glass runs neatly uninterrupted all around the vehicle, with five rectangular windows from b-pillar around the rear to b-pillar. There's something about the simple shape of these windows that gives the hhr a low-rider look, although the roof itself is relatively high, as the name declares. Roof rails are almost useless without crossbars. It features shaved rear door handles. The lack of windows adds security for valuables inside. This design also lends itself to wraps and customization. interiorthe tan cloth interior, despite its name of cashmere cloth, looks like upholstery that might be found in an inexpensive furnished rental unit. Speaking of headroom, there isn't a lot of it, in spite of the high roof.  there's no significant storage in any console between the seats; two cupholders and one slot is all. The door pockets are small. There's a useful flip-up compartment on top of the dash, however, as well as a small glovebox.  in the rear, there's one cupholder and small door pockets. Even operating the driver's window, at toll booths for example, requires leaning forward and reaching down. Window switches should be on the driver's door.  the turn signal makes a loud, rapid, annoying click. The rearview mirror blocks a significant chunk of forward visibility out the smallish windshield.  the gauges and controls are standard gm issue. Superfluous chrome rings and trim, and instruments designed to look cool, rather than to be easily readable. One good thing (even if it is bright chrome) is the door handle, an ergonomically correct ring which actuates with a horizontal inward pull.  if the hhr misses on the little interior things, at least the cargo storage possibilities are excellent, although the total cargo area of 55. 6 cubic feet is 8. 4 less than in the pt cruiser. The rear split 60/40 seat folds flat very easily, as does the front passenger seat; and since the 60-percent side of the rear seat is on the left, a long item like a ladder can be slipped in diagonally, a nice feature. The rear cargo floor flips up to reveal a five-inch-deep tray useful for storage. The rear liftgate is one piece, and raises easily.  legroom is lacking in the rear seat. Kids are always fine, as long as three of them can share one drink. We actually carried six 10-year-old boys on a soccer team for 60 miles in the hhr, and they were all happy, even the two who squeezed into the way-back. Adults wouldn't be as happy in the hhr's back seats.  the panel van has a rubberized floor that should be good for delivery or business or hobby uses. Rearward visibility is poor, however. driving impressionthe chevy hhr's 2. 4-liter ecotec is a wonderful little engine, and it has a slight boost in horsepower and torque numbers for 2007. It makes 175 horsepower and 165 pound-feet of torque at 5000 rpm, numbers which don't indicate anything special. In fact, that torque peak suggests that the low-rpm pulling power might be weak. We drive up a steep, slow hill every day, and the hhr plugged up the hill like a tractor, with no shifting-down of the automatic transmission.  transmission ratios have a lot to do with this efficient delivery of power. The automatic includes remote starting, and climbing into a toasty car on icy mornings after starting it from a warm house during morning coffee is a nice luxury. We liked the way the automatic could be easily manually downshifted, even though it doesn't feature a separate manual mode. And we liked how it held second gear going down that same steep, slow hill.  acceleration was equally impressive. Onto the freeway, foot on the floor, and the hhr 2lt really scoots, which makes it a lot of fun. The 2. 4-liter engine is quiet, thanks partly to special laminated steel in the firewall.  the 2. 4-liter engine is efficient, also. It gets the same epa-rated 22/27 mpg city/highway (with manual transmission) as the standard 149 hp, 2. 2-liter engine. Premium fuel is recommended but not required for the 2. 4-liter. During one week in the 2lt, we averaged 23. 4 miles per gallon, as indicated by the digital data on the dash. That included mostly around-town driving, plus about 120 freeway miles with a full load o. 2012 dodge charger review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. An unequivocally american muscle car. introductionit's as if nobody told dodge about american cars: that they are cheap, flimsy, incompetent. To the contrary, the dodge charger is a proudly american muscle sedan, pumped, powerful, and full of swagger. Without effort, it meets that challenge and welcomes the battle. The charger is proof that american carmakers have learned that they can no longer market shoddy design and haphazard assembly. To that end, the dodge charger is a proud product of the new detroit. It's handsomely designed and has world-class fit and finish. From crankshaft to door handles, everything operates with fine precision and the promise of long-lasting service.  the dodge charger was redesigned for the 2011 model year, and there are no significant changes for the 2012 charger except that a new 2012 dodge charger srt8 has been added to the model lineup. The 2012 charger is the second year of the second generation of the modern charger. The first generation ran 2006-2010. The original was launched as a '66. The general lee bo and luke duke drove was a '69.  from the outside, this second-generation charger looks a lot like an older rendering of the american sedan, but that appearance is misleading. The retro look is a self-confident exercise in sinuous american styling.  the interior, however, is anything but old style. A first-rate, 8. 4-inch touch-screen navigation system is coupled with a rearview camera and ancillary controls for climate and audio. The latest navigation system is sensationally intuitive, transparent, and pleasing to use, among the best we've seen. It's very easy to read and very easy to understand. Underscoring this user-friendliness, the charger's audio controls for volume and tuning are accomplished with old-fashioned, practical radial knobs: what a concept! German luxury brands costing vastly more could learn from the charger's straightforward controls.  nothing else is more happily apparent in the new dodge charger than that chrysler has enthusiastically embraced the new design and quality standards dictated by detroit's recent, painful bailouts. They must build better cars at lower prices than the competition. V6 chargers earn a stellar 31 mpg highway.  the 2012 dodge charger is the classic combination: a full-size detroit sedan with strong performance and unmistakable american looks, selling at a surprisingly attractive price. Compared with the full-size dodge sedan of 20 or 30 years ago, a 2012 charger will reward the owner with exciting styling, world-class engineering and impressive value. Connectivity group for sxt 395) includes voice command with bluetooth, auto-dimming rearview mirror, leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls and leather-wrapped shift knob. Charger r/t 29,995) features the 5. 7-liter 370-bhp hemi v8 with decel fuel shut off (dfso). Adaptive cruise control group for sxt plus, r/t plus, and r/t road & track 925) adds forward collision warning with adaptive cruise control and heated steering wheel. Navigation group 795) includes voice command with garmin navi, sirius traffic, sirius travel link, and parking view rear backup camera.  safety features on all dodge chargers includes electronic traction control (tcs), electronic stability control (esc), anti-lock brakes (abs), electronic brake distribution (ebd), brake assist, rain brake support, hill-start assist, automatic headlamps, active front head restraints, all federally mandated airbags (seven), front seatbelt pretensioners, lower anchors and tethers for children (latch), occupant restraint controller. Available all-wheel drive can improve handling stability in adverse conditions, and the available rearview camera can help the driver spot a child behind the car when backing up. walkaroundthis latest-generation dodge charger is immediately recognizable. The front says it's a dodge, a design theme that began life on, of all things, the upright first-generation dodge ram pickup truck. The two vehicles could not be more different, yet the aggressive, muscular cruciform grille suits both perfectly. Achieving that kind of unmistakable model-line identity is no small achievement.  in like manner, the tail of the charger uses the same array of full-width taillamps made famous on the charger in the '60s. It's a handsome look that is instantly recognizable to anyone familiar with historic dodge styling cues. The charger expresses pride in where dodge, chrysler corporation, and for that matter, all american cars have been during the last few turbulent decades.  the body of the second-generation modern charger is crisply styled throughout. It is considerably edgier and more muscular than its immediate predecessor, which had great promise but was, by comparison, a bit of a lump. Along the sides of the car are slanting, angular indentations that echo the racy rear-facing engine-room vents made so famous on the all-conquering dodge viper supercar. In the charger, these are unmistakably bad looking in all of the right street-savvy ways.  continuing this street look, in profile, the car's dramatically low roofline tapers downward rapidly at the car's mid-point. In combination with its high waistline and compressed greenhouse, the car expresses a secretive, almost hot-rod chopped appearance. Occupants seem to peer outward from sinister gun slit-like windows. Yet for all of its hunched-over appearance, the occupants' outward visibility is quite good enough.  when the charger's dynamic outward appearance is combined with its strong performance, this is an american muscle sedan with the credentials to appeal to a broad range of tastes. interiorexamining the charger's interior, we started in the back seat to investigate just how limited seating room might be underneath this low roofline. Inevitably, tall backseat passengers will have to scrunch down a little, though moderately tall riders will be just fine. The rear cabin is comfortable and roomy without being huge. The top of the backlight has multi-linear applique black stripes, providing a bit of shade from the sun and simultaneously creating the impression from outside that the rear window is even lower and more hooded.  the rear seat is firm and supportive, with a fairly hard back-cushion. A central pull-down elbow rest contains two cup holde. Power Windows✔ Anti-lock Brakes✔ Power Mirrors✔ Power Locks✔ Cruise Control✔ Backup Camera✔ Navigation System✔ Remote Start✔ Bluetooth

2010 acura tsx review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. The availability of a v6 for the 2010 acura tsx represents a step almost as big as the styling changes introduced with the 2009 model year. Acura's superb navigation system is the equal of anything in the class, and it displays real-time traffic with congestion re-routing and local and national weather. The top-line audio system sets a standard for the class, too, with superbly crisp surround sound. Acura's v6 is smooth and linear, and up in the higher revs makes a pleasant growl. The v-6 model is heavier by 210 pounds and takes 3 mpg off epa city and highway ratings. And it needs an extra 15 inches of space for a u-turn. The tsx v-6 gets an epa-estimated 18/27 mpg.  the tsx uses front-wheel drive, whereas true sports sedans are rear-wheel drive. That said, the tsx is one of the better-handling front-wheel-drive sedans. And in its class it's hard to beat as an everyday driver that can still be fun on a winding road. The 2. 4-liter engine is rated at 201-hp,  styling is true to acura themes, the more aggressive, buff look to emphasize stance introduced on the 2009 model.  the 2010 acura tsx competes primarily with the audi a4, bmw 3 series, and lexus is. Other competitors include the cadillac cts, infiniti g37, mercedes-benz c-class, saab 9-3, volkswagen cc, volvo s60. Other acura-approved accessories include 18-inch, 10-spoke, chrome-look or ebony-finish alloy wheels; backup sensor; wheel locks; sport bumper kit; rear bumper applique; deck lid spoiler or wing spoiler; moonroof visor; car cover; and nose mask.  safety features include a full complement of airbags for front and side curtain airbags in back. Rear outboard seats provide anchors (latch) for child safety seats. Antilock brakes let the driver steer the car during emergency stops, brake assist boosts initial brake pressure in panic stops and electronic brake-force distribution apportions brake application between front and rear to optimize stopping distance. Electronic stability assist, coupled with traction control, adjusts brake and throttle to keep the car going where it's supposed to go through evasive or avoidance maneuvers or when road conditions deteriorate. Tire pressure monitors are standard. walkaroundthere is a consistency to acura's styling that ties its current models together and the tsx is no exception. Although it stretches the mold a bit, as it should, there's still no mistaking it for anything but one of honda's luxury line.  the front end blends elements from acura's other two sedans, the sporty tl and the more serious rl, and from the mdx sport utility. The headlight housings, for instance, with their squinty lenses curling around the front fenders to reach deep into the arcs of the front wheelwells, look like a direct lift from the tl. The elongated, pentagonal silver bar topping the similarly outlined grille pulls from both the mdx grille. The gaping lower air intake is a new design cue and shaves visual mass from what might otherwise be an overpowering front bumper while adding function by funneling needed cooling air into the engine compartment and reducing front end lift. Hood sculpting defines the tsx's centerline and front fenders.  the side view departs a bit more from the family look, but keeps just enough of the cues to stay true to its design dna. This is especially evident in the side lenses of the headlight and taillight housings and the silhouette of the trailing lip of the trunk lid, all of which closely mirror the previous tsx. In much sharper relief, though, are the sculpted character lines in the door panels. These add visual bulk and combine with edgy wheel arches remindful, again, of the mdx to make a stronger statement about the car's sporty aspirations. Door handles embedded in the upper crease give the view a cleaner look.  the rear aspect, sad to say, suggests of recent toyota camrys more than of the previous tsx in its overly busy styling. A deeply cut horizontal line slices straight across the rear vertical of the trunk lid, itself looking almost concave against the gently convex vertical of earlier models. Taillights bridge the seam between trunk and fenders and the license plate recess mirrors the five-angle grille, visually pushing the trailing lip higher and seeming to add sheet metal across the lower reaches of the trunk lid. The rear bumper cups the trunk opening with unflattering sedan like bulk, which makes the hot rod-spec dual exhaust tips look a little lame.  six-cylinder models are identified only by standard 18-inch wheels, “v6” badge on the trunk, and slightly larger lower grille inlets. interiorliking the new acura tsx interior is easy. It's comfortable without being plush, sporty without being sparse. Communication between driver and car is, for the most part, open and easy and unabridged.  the front seats are supportive, with enough side bolstering for reasonably rambunctious motoring on twisty roads. The bottom cushion could be deeper, but this is a common shortcoming in many cars. The front seat passenger still gets shortchanged with no height adjustment, which leaves even taller people feeling as if they're sitting in a hole. Cabin measurements show the tsx with the least front headroom, more rear legroom than the is, and about par elsewhere.  the rear seat is more like a bench than twin buckets, and space for the lower extremities is snug; this is the typical pinch point in compact sedans. Rear head restraints adjust for height, which is a plus for its occupants, although even when at their lowest position they limit the visibility out the back window from the inside rear view mirror. The steering wheel sports push buttons and toggles controlling more than a dozen functions, not counting the horn, making it look like it would be just as comfortable in a jet fighter cockpit as in a car. The high-end audio setup does force the relocation of the cd changer down into the bowels of the center stack, where it's not as easily accessed as with the base system, which parks it at the top of the stack, but that's a minor complaint, and one that won't even show up on the technophiles' radar.  a. 2013 toyota yaris review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Versatile, reliable subcompact hatch. introductionthe toyota yaris is a five-seat, subcompact car available as either a three-door or five-door hatchback. Yaris touts utility, able handling and a simple design.  yaris was completely redesigned for the 2012 model year. For 2013, yaris gets only minor changes to the lineup of standard features. The base yaris l and the top-line, sport-tuned yaris se come standard with a 5-speed manual gearbox. A 0. 29 coefficient of drag helps yaris slip through the air.  fuel economy is an epa-estimated 30/37 mpg city/highway with the 5-speed manual transmission, 30/36 mpg with the 4-speed automatic. These numbers are average for the subcompact class.  electric power steering on the yaris results in good road feel without losing easy low-speed maneuvering for parking in tight spaces. The suspension consists of macpherson struts in front and torsion beam in back, for a decent ride and tighter corning. Standard wheel size on the l and le models is 15 inches, while the se gets 16-inch wheels and tires.  the yaris se is the hot rod of the lineup, with quicker steering, more expressive styling and a sportier interior. The front seats are as sporty and comfortable as any we've found in the class. The front seats feature toyota's advanced whiplash injury-lessening (wil) design, supporting the upper body from head to lower back. Yaris is gets a top rating of good in frontal-offset, side and roof strength tests from the insurance institute for highway safety, which is supported by the insurance industry.  yaris competes against many attractive and efficient subcompact hatchbacks, including the chevrolet sonic, ford fiesta, honda fit, nissan versa. lineupthe toyota yaris is available as a three-door or five-door hatchback. Base l and mid-level le trims are offered in both body styles, while the sportier se is available only as a five-door. Yaris l 5-door models are available only with the automatic 15,395). Inside there's upgraded cloth upholstery and a leather-trimmed three-spoke tilting steering wheel. walkaroundtoyota yaris was all-new for the 2012 model year, longer, lower and wider than its predecessor.  yaris comes as a three-door or five-door liftback. A sedan version is not available. After decades, it seems the eminently practical hatchback/liftback body style is starting to prevail over the smoother looking but less functional compact sedan.  though small, the yaris presents an aggressive stance. Yaris features a bold nose and head-on view, with wide headlamps and integrated turn signals. The side profile shows a steep beltline and curving shoulders that flow to the rear. Yaris's lines are cool enough that in black or gray metallic, it actually looks powerful, in a subcompact sort of way.  the yaris se looks sportier with its wider tires, alloy wheels, spoilers and diffusers, and body-colored touches. interiorwe love the sport seats in the yaris se. The high-quality fabric is rugged and the fit is all-around excellent. The yaris chassis and ride feel solid, and we think the seats have a lot to do with this. There's good legroom in front, 40. 6 inches.  rear-seat roominess is decent for a subcompact, with 33. 3 inches of legroom. The rear bench seat in the yaris l model folds flat with one knob, while the yaris le and se models have a 60/40 split folding rear seat. The instrument lighting glows red at night. The flat-bottom steering wheel stays out of the way of a driver's knees when climbing in and out.  cabin conveniences are especially important in a subcompact, and the yaris has good ones. Climate control knobs are as simple and easy as they come. It's got a roomy glovebox, six cup and bottle holders, door pockets, and cubbies near the shift lever, although no center console between the seats, where the emergency brake lever is located.  the audio system uses small buttons and icons, and we found the interface confusing. We also found the reception on the am/fm radio was lousy. The engine isn't buzzy, and there's tons of new sound insulation. driving impressionwe got a chance to drive the yaris in the snow, and it performed well. Traction was better than we expected up a steep slippery street, and anti-lock brakes delivered security on the way back down.  secure and solid would be good ways to describe the toyota yaris. It's not big on the outside, it's not as quick and sporty feeling as the lightweight mazda2 or the ford fiesta, and it doesn't have the exciting jackrabbit throttle response of the mazda; but the yaris handling is lively enough, while feeling a bit more substantial.  the ride is solid, too: comfortably firm, not comfortably soft. Its 106 hp is enough for everyday driving, and the 103 pound-feet of torque is available over a broad range peaking at 4200 rpm. A broad torque curve means responsiveness when driving around town.  uphill at 80 it was hungry for more, not straining. Toyota has done an excellent job with the yaris's aerodynamics and sound insulation.  we loved the 5-speed manual gearbox. It shifted quick and tight. Unfortunately, we have to wonder if the 4-speed automatic is outdated nowadays, considering most automakers are using at least 6 speeds for improved power management and fuel efficiency. summarya quiet ride, lively and secure cornering, great seats and attractive interior help make the yaris a competitive subcompact hatch.  sam moses filed this newcartestdrive.
